Kerwin
Chong began his career as a tattoo artist in 2007 after
years of influence from his sister, an artist herself,
who specialized in different mediums of paint (oil,
acrylic, watercolor, pastel, and charcoal). Born and
raised in the Philippines, his interest in art also
stemmed from his uncle, a traveling prosthetic/special
effects artist in Asian movies, who taught him how to
draw & paint as a young man.
In 1997, due to personal
reasons, Kerwin made the decision to move to the United
States, and settled in
Massachusetts. With his parents support and advise, he
pursued his education and graduated with a BS in Graphic
Design from Fitchburg State College. Before coming to
the United States, he also pursued his interest in music
and played drums for a local band (which were featured
in three major label compilation CDs for some up and
coming alternative bands).
After graduating, Kerwin
took a full-time position as a Graphic Designer where he
further garnered experience as an artist in this medium.
His attraction and desire to tattoo still remained first
and foremost in his heart, and he decided it was time to
pursue this goal.
In 2007, he took his first
apprenticeship with Al Hume at Stain of Cain in Wareham,
MA. Still working his full-time gig as a Graphic
Designer, he worked at the shop every night of the week,
enjoying every minute of the experience and opportunity.
Throughout his apprenticeship, his passion and
dedication for tattoo got stronger and stronger. Upon
conclusion of his apprenticeship, in May 2007 he began
his career as a tattoo artist in Worcester. Presently he
is working part time at Zaza Ink under the guidance of
shop owner, Joe Peterson. He enjoys every tattoo he does
and loves to do custom pieces, portraits and realism.
He presently resides in
Avon, MA with his wife and 18-month old son. His work
