 Tattoo
artist and shop owner, Joe “Zaza” Peterson is
thirty-four and currently resides in Worcester,
Massachusetts along wife Irene and two sons, William who
is twelve-years old and Ben who is nine-years old. Joe is
the owner of Zaza Ink, a tattoo and body piercing studio
in West Boylston, Massachusetts.
Joe
opened Zaza Ink in 2001, and the shop quickly built a
reputation as the most unique shop in town, offering
custom tattoos, body piercing, massage, and henna
tattoos. Within the doors of Zaza Ink, you will not find
the usual flash art covering the walls - instead you
find a living room style waiting room and a front desk
with a professional receptionist who greets and welcomes each
customer who enters the shop. A koi pond, television and
pool table fill the corners of the shop to ensure that
his customers feel comfortable and entertained while
waiting for their appointment.
This customer focused philosophy is exactly what Joe
intended to accomplish when he and his wife decided to
open the shop. At Zaza Ink, every tattoo matters,
whether it is the size of a quarter or a quarter sleeve.
Customers often marvel at how welcome they feel at the
shop versus the “average” tattoo shop.
Having always been intrigued with the origins, artistry
and beauty of tattoos, Joe knew early on that it was in
his blood, and his passion for the art carried him
through his teens until he was able to pick up his first
tattoo machine. As the senior artist at the shop, Joe
specializing in realism, fine portraits, and bold
color work. He is often booked out two to three months
in advance. Joe is also a licensed body piercer.
In 2006, Joe set out to bring a tattoo convention back
to the Worcester, MA after many years of being without
one locally….and just like that - the Massachusetts Tattoo and Art Festival was
born. The first event took place in April of 2007 and
was a huge success. The brainchild of Joe, the
convention is now in its third year and its attendance
has grown annually. In 2009, the Festival is moving to a
larger venue to accommodate its growth and success.
Joe also goes on the road as often as he can, doing
guest spots and conventions across the country to
further build his reputation. Joe has also been
published in several magazines throughout the years, and
he has won many awards that honor his work. As an artist and
owner of Zaza Ink, Joe is 100% committed to his
customers, new and longstanding. Quite often, Joe will
open the shop on Sunday to accommodate his loyal
customers. It is this dedication and his amazing talent
as an artist that has earned Joe such great success
over the years. Joe’s success continues to flourish year
in and year out, exceeding even his own expectations.
